Trust frameworks for the AI value chain: Essential for transparency and regulatory conformity

  • FLINN LAW 46 Avenue des Arts Bruxelles, 1000 Belgium (map)

Recently, value chain accountability has emerged as a key challenge for AI governance i.e. how should we establish processes and mechanisms by which all actors across AI value chains can be appropriately held to account by other actors and stakeholders. Transparency of information is key to enabling accountability and building trust. Transparency has long been held as a fundamental principle and value to be pursued in AI governance. Policy frameworks like the UNESCO Recommendation and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework recognise the importance of ensuring appropriate information about an AI system is made available to those who interact with it. Article 13 of the EU AI Act provides the requirement of transparency and provision of information for high-risk AI systems. However, we have yet to operationalise the process for information sharing through the value chain.

At this roundtable, we will hear from those at the forefront of AI regulation and standards in Europe, together with wider perspectives on the need for standardisation of information sharing between those in the AI value chain to support both transparency and regulatory conformity.
